Douglas Kline - VP/Director of Public Relations, Account Supervisor

Douglas Kline

VP/Director of Public Relations, Account Supervisor

Hired: October 2003

Education:

  • Drake University: B.A. in Journalism. Graduated Summa Cum Laude

Doug's Background:

Doug previously worked with Target Stores, where he led all media relations and public relations for stores, corporate programs, promotional campaigns, crisis response, and community relations. RAA clients will benefit from his unique blend of promotional publicity skills coupled with expertise in corporate communications counsel, crisis response, and media savvy.

All in a day’s work:

In prior positions, Doug directed the business development communications and subsequent grand openings of 25 regional shopping malls, 15 full-service department stores and countless crazy special events.

Great Achievements:

Crowd Control At Target, during one two-week period during the frenetic holiday season, Doug simultaneously directed clear and above-board messages reacting to White Supremacists protesting specific Christmas items, anti-White Supremacists protesting the presence of the White Supremacists, mad Salvation Army bell-ringers with their kettles, parent groups concerned about violent video games, and millions of customers upset about a change in the merchandise return policy. When it was over, the Target brand and reputation emerged unscathed and even stronger.

A Vision of Success In the medical field, for Vision-Ease Lens, Doug led the nationwide introduction of an all-new eyeglass lens material and manufacturing technology. The new product was quickly embraced by consumers, and sales exceeded projections by more than 40%. The publicity and PR campaign was noted within the industry as one of the most successful new-product launches ever.

Proudest Moments:

Target was accused by a respected, national watchdog organization of selling merchandise promoting racist symbols. Unfortunately, the accusation was delivered to Target via front-page publication in USA Today and other national media. Within a week, Doug contained the frenzied controversy with strategically controlled messages of fact, apology and future action that made the issue melt away. This occurred while his pro-active publicity for new products and services continued unabated…with all messages integrated to support the highly prized Target brand.

The Great Pretender:

When leading and managing several high school choirs at the same time, Doug himself never sang a note.

Doug's Preferred Diversions:

Overseeing construction of a new getaway retreat in Wisconsin.
Sitting with an audience anywhere, anytime, for any type of live theater performance.
Tending his backyard waterfalls and pools while coaxing hundreds of tiny moss plants to thrive.
